LEGO Polaroid Camera (Ideas range)

Had some spare time amongst a busy working life and all the festivities so decided to break into one of the many unopened sets I have. I decided the LEGO Polaroid Camera was the perfect option as I have already made the Disney Tribute Camera and LEGO Creator 3in1 Retro Camera and this would complete the set.

The set comprised of 4 of the newer eco paper bags which quite frankly always pleases me to see and only 4 small stickers, arguably even more pleasing to see. Additionally there are 3 pre-printed Polaroid images that add that little extra and actually become a feature later on in the build, but I won’t spoil it for you.

The first bag contained all the necessary bricks to create a rather convincing looking film pack, comprising of the retro Polaroid multicoloured theme on a white background. This part of the build was pretty simple.

Next it was time to start building the base of the Polaroid camera with tilting film insert on the front and a mechanism that boggles the mind a little but becomes a bit clearer come the end of the build.

The set then guides you to build another mechanism that at the beginning you are likely to not have a clue what it is, this then ends up being the main lense and slots into the base that you made in the previous part of this set.

You then start to assemble the outer shell of the Polaroid camera, this part was for the me the most frustrating part as it can be a bit fiddly. I found that putting the outer shell on resulted in me unintentionally removing some other parts. The build has stayed very close to the original with no protruding parts and a nice smooth sloping shell.

A nice addition to this is the working view finder you are required to add before adding the final outer shell piece, a nice move from LEGO with authenticity of the end product.

Finally the set is completed by adding the coloured front cover of the dispensing unit. As you can see the authentic Polaroid shining through once again.

Overall though the build was very enjoyable. The end result was very convincing and authentic looking and as stated before completes the set for me, the replication to the original is fantastic and it’s genuinly difficult to find a difference from the real thing, besides the fact that LEGO is clearly way cooler.

Next on the agenda is to find a way of displaying them in my dedicated room that is currently side lining as a dumping ground for renovation furniture.

I won’t spoil it for you but at the end was a nice surprise.

I think I paid in the region of £59 for this set and I must say for me it’s a winner.
